There is reason this is documented. With some version of Virtualbox SMP support would not work. That is what I seem to
I haven't been using VBOX much, recently. I am now using v7.1.4, under win 10 (on my Lenovo ThinkPad T510, with 2 cores),
and it appears that a couple of problems, with running ArcaOS, have been fixed. Using SMP is working much better than before (I
would guess that they quit emulating Hyper Threading). It would hang, or crash, after about 3 minutes, but now I am at more than
140 minutes, with no sign of a problem (not really using it). There was also a problem using more than one attached virtual disk,
where it would not mount additional disk images at boot time, sometimes. That also seems to be fixed.
Looks like I need to do more testing with VBOX, and the Wiki may need to be updated.
Commenting on using multiple cores: You will find that increasing the number used, has a smaller increment for each one added.
You will also find that the overhead (cache management) increases faster than the benefits, after a while. This is also true on
bare metal. Offsetting that, is the performance of newer computers.
Things change.
Indeed they do. Following up, I enabled Hyper Threading in the BIOS. ArcaOS 5.0.8 seems to be perfectly happy.
Well, not quite. Trying to run VBOX (under OS/2) doesn't like it much.
