HDA = High Definition Audio, which is the latest sound standard found in most new systems.  My T42p had AC'97, my new T61 has HDA. AC'97 works
with  the older version of UniAud, but HDA does not.
What then is in my T60?  Can I boot to the dark side and determine it from
Device Mangler?

No need, Julian. The T60 is an HDA machine. That's really
the machine (notebook, at least) which kicked off all this
hullabaloo and the reason for this list.

So, to reiterate:

    1. Do not install UniAUD with the RC5 install.
    2. Finish the installation of RC5.
    3. Download UniAUD 1.1.4RC6 from netlabs (or pull it from the eCS CD: D:\CID\SERVER\MMECS\DRIVERS\UNIAUD; Install with MINSTALL).
    4. DO NOT REBOOT!!!!!
    5. Download Paul's ALSA components (UNIAUD16.SYS &
UNIAUD32.SYS): http://download.smedley.info/uniaud32-alsa-1.0.17-20080716.zip
    6. Unizip OVER \MMOS2, thus replacing the drivers included in 1.1.4RC6.
    7. Turn off system sounds (not sure if this is completely applicable to the T60 or just the T61).
    8. Reboot.
    9. Hold your breath. Pray. Hold your breath some more...
   10. You should get the messages that UNIAUD16 & 32 have
loaded and have recognized your hardware.
   11. Test the following before adding to STARTUP.CMD:

unimix -id3 -cnt0 -val1 <Enter> (that should turn on the left channel)
unimix -id3 -cnt1 -val1 <Enter> (that should turn on the right channel)
unimix -id27 -val33 <Enter> (that should set the master volume for both channels to 33 out of 39; adjust to taste, obviously, and the volume applet works to adjust it, too)

   12. Go to the net & try some youtube stuff to make sure
you have working sound.
   13. If you're feeling brave, try turning system sounds
back on.

I think that about covers it. You may export the above settings to unimix.ini, and load them at boot time with a single line:

unimix -savec:\mmos2\unimix.ini <Enter> (to create the unimix.ini file itself)

Add to STARTUP.CMD:

        unimix -loadc:\mmos2\unimix.ini

The unimix details I outlined previously (for the T61, at least) here: http://mail.2rosenthals.com:8100/Lists/ecs-t6x/Message/12.html?altLanguage=

Good luck, and sorry for not being more explanatory about the acronyms and such in my earlier emails (thanks for filling in the blanks, Mark!).
