Overall very good results so far after installing RC6a on a T61.  The wireless networking connected immediately upon final boot (to a neighbor's open wireless network, I then setup a profile for my network and it connected right up too).  Just connected the ethernet and it is working as well.
I selected the pcmcia as the T42 option and I just put in a modem card and it was recognized immediately.
I had to select uniaud as the install didn't pick that up and I don't hear anything.  I downloaded the latest version from Smedley's site and still no sound.  I figure I'll uninstall and reinstall and see what I get.  I thought it might just be that I can't hear it as sometimes that is a problem but unimix doesn't give me any feedback at all, just flashes away (no popuplog.os2 entries).  UnimixPM also will not launch in the same fashion.  The drivers load fine though and look good in Hardware Manager.  8086 284b -- 82801-ICH8
USBDock doesn't recognize at least my USB key is plugged in.  I had left my key plugged in from where I had the registration file and when I ran USBDock it said there were no devices.  I thought that was odd but pulled the key and got the message that it had not been removed proplerly and USB is working but USBDock isn't seeing it.  Haven't updated that yet.
The default for shutdown Animation needs to be changed to off as it doesn't get along well with ACPI shutdowns.
The /SMP seems to be working well.  Had some issues with /APIC until I uninstalled and reinstalled Uniaud.  Still no sound but fixed an odd issue where the eCenter would not come up until I restarted the WPS.
I chose Snap for the install and found that it was using Vesa mode.  It was surprisingly responsive for no acceleration (even firefox).  It had the 1440x900 resolution as an option but put it into what looked like pan and scan mode but it didn't (pan and scan that is), it just had a portion of the screen showing and that was it.  I then installed Panorama  (again even firefox seems very responsive).  1440x900 is an option but choosing it and rebooting gives a highly distorted image to the point of not being able to recognize much more than the blue background.  Tried the widescreen activator to see if it would make a difference but same thing.  Ended up restoring to gengradd the first time as I didn't remember to create a desktop archive.  Gengradd gave the same distortion at 1440x900 so must be a gradd driver issue.  Internal and external display is not configurable.  If an external monitor is connected at boot then that is what it uses (FN F7 doesn't change it) so if you disconnect the external you will not be able to switch to the internal without rebooting.
Just found a new thing... restarting the desktop is a source of problems, similar to what I had before reinstalling Uniaud (then restarting the desktop cleared them up though).  ecenter will not open, though it is hatched and the whole desktop can lock up.  Hmm, just tried again and this time before it had a chance to lockup I restarted the desktop again and now ecenter launches.  Restarting the desktop from the eCenter or from the desktop menu I get this problem... killing pmshell.exe from cadh/top is what clears it up.  Just tried the restart desktop with "close all sessions" checked and it isn't closing ecenter.  When I kill pmshell it then kills the ecenters (multiple as I had tried to relaunch ecenter).
I have AHCI activated and it worked out of the box.
All in all the system is quite useable out of the box.  No sound and the video not running in the preferred mode are the biggest issues so far.
