I bought a t43 from the ibm refurbished systems site and have ecs installed and doing 
well, even wirelessly!   In fact the ecs installation on this computer  was possibly easier 
than any system I've slogged through the installation on before.   I'm thinking of buying 
a couple more to hedge against a future of increasing difficulty with ecs and hardware.  
ECS is essential to my business.
