Same experience here with my T61.  I still prefer my T42p because of a few things.  eCS 2.0 RC6a installed fine on to the T61.  And as you stated Sound works with Paul's HDA Uniaud 1.9.12 driver (though you have to close anything that uses sound before starting something else that requires sound or I get a message that the device is locked). I only use WiFi which works great with GenMac.  With ACPI I get dual CPU support and power off but battery power usage is poor (only an hour unless you use the hacked kernel from ecomstation.ru which has extra halts in it, while I get about 3.5-4 hours on my T42p).
Did you try the CPUspeed utility?

With it I can throttle down both cores of my R60, so it runs a lot longer
on the battery. I even use it when my laptop is conected to the wire, so
it runs a lot cooler.

Sorry it took me a while to respond but I had forgotten what list I had read this on.  Turned out my problem was with the battery itself.  I replaced it with a new 9 cell battery and now getting about 2.5 - 3 hours of time.  I have tried CPUSpeed before and tried it again.  The problem is the system starts to get unusable from time to time.  Probably just not using the correct settings.  What parameters are you using with your R60?

Mark
