It's not that I *can't* fix the LCD, it's just that it's simply not worth me either spending the hour to do it properly, *and* fix the keyboard issue (parts & time), vs simply taking the opportunity to upgrade the machine. There are several nice off-lease 15" T43's now on eBay for rather good prices. (Even T60 machines are available on the cheap right now, though T61's are a bit more.) I'll keep the info for your neighbor on hand, though.
