It would seem so. All T61 and many T60 have graphics adapters that fall back to
VESA mode. That's what more modern laptops are going to have, too.

It looks to me like a lot of effort in the eCS world is going on right now to
get the Intel 950-based T60 to work better.

With proper CPU management in ACPI, newer laptops would run faster. With better
Panorama, graphics would be speedier. With improvements in USB and audio,
system stability will improve. A year from now, laptops will be a different
story due to these improvements.

If your preference is for a new laptop, it will probably mostly work even now.
A year from now, WiFi support will probably still be an issue.
