Hi

with the latest LPR drivers for eCS, printing is very fast, I am impressed, without the updated  drivers  it is very slow.

*IBM Streaming LPR Port Driver* - download update <http://www.ecomstation.com/ecsdb/downloadsoftware.phtml?downloadkey=commondownload&software=133&type=download> Release Date:   08-22-2002 05:10:35 PM
Last Update: 05-30-2003 09:53:21 PM

*_Overview_: *

*Streaming Line PRinter (SLPR.PDR)* is a streaming port driver used to connect your computer to a printer or print server via a TCP/IP connection. The driver uses Line Printer Daemon (LPD) Protocol as specified in RFC 1179. This protocol is an almost universal way to send print data to printers and servers. It is meant to be used as a alternative to the \PIPE\LPD0 (henceforth LPD0) port driver which is shipped with OS/2.

Some advantages of SLPR.PDR:

   * Faster Thruput:Data can be sent to the printer almost as soon as
it is generated as compared to the LPD0 driver which needs to wait
until all the printer job is generated before it is sent. -
   * Simpler Setup:The LPD0 driver requires a separate program
(LPD.EXE) be up and running before it will work. Since the LPD
progranter directly it has the status - not the spooler. -
   * Better Error Handling:With LPD0 any problems are reported via LPD
program and not the spooler. With SLPR thooler so error recovery
     is more intelligent.
   * User Specified Time-outs:With LPD the default is to wait
indefinitely so out of paper or printer jams are not noticed for a
long time. With SLPR, any waits longer than the user specified
tim-out generates an easy to see pop-up notification. -
   * SLPR can have up to 64.

*_Requirements_:*

Users must be at eCS 1.0x, fixpack 2 or higher.

Yes, NDS. Printing works fine, too, as long as queue services are available (NDPS can be configured to service queues, so even NDPS printers are accessible).

How is the printing performance using IP, Vaughn?

Hi

I assume you are logging in   in   NDS mode rather than bindery/server
mode?

I guess I have been doing that here in our office since NW6.5 came out.  I don't use any component of Netware for printing, just straight IP printing directly to printers

we are using a range of printers,  printing to Kyocera Photocopier, HP 4500 Color printer, HPIIID, and Kycera color printer.  All IP

In case anybody has been wondering, NetWare 6.5 (running IPX on the
wire, of course) works just fine with the 2.12 requester. In fact,
eDirectory 8.7.3 works flawlessly, with everything browsable (well,
everything one might expect to be browsable when using an NDS browser
from 1997).
