I have no information on this. I briefy discussed the need/desire for one at Warpstock San Francisco last October, but that was about it. That said, if we could get enough people to commit real $$ in terms of promises to pay licensing fees, I'm sure that the talent exists to create an updated client. Look at the latest Mac clients from ProSoft Engineering: far superior to any of the previous Novell offerings, both in terms of performance and feature set.
