I have NO complaint about "wget" and it got nothing to do with my SOCKETS crashes. I found "wget" to be LIFE SAFER over and over and over again. Its the most astonishing piece of net SW tool I've ever found. It allowed me to finish downloads where much bulkier tools would simply fail or lock up. And its installation under OS/2 is a breeze compared with Windoze. On at least one occasion I would have lost my job if not for wget.
