Lewis,

Have you tried using the Intel 2200bg with any flavor of Linux?  Here when I tried it with Xandros on my T42p, Linux showed several APs but wouldn't connect to any (including my own).  Damn thing only works with windoze, which makes me wonder if windoze has adjusted something that screws everything else up.  It did work great with eCS 1.2R for several weeks until I booted to windoze.

I have not had an opportunity to try the 2200bg with Linux, Mark. I did find that with a BIOS upgrade to the T43, the Intel 2915 would not work in eCS (though it did in Windows). have you tried jogging your system BIOS at all?

I did, and there was no difference, alas.

Anyway, it seems the 2200bg included in some Thinkpads is different from the one Mark, Ed and I bought separately and had installed afterwards in our TP.

So mayby it's a driver problem after all. But as IBM has ditched OS/2 as well as it's Thinkpad, how on earth are we going to sort that out?

Hi Kris (and others) - I'm still working on the 2200BG issues (from a user search and configure point of view - I am now the developer).

I have had the IBM 2200BG part as supplied in the ThinkPad T42 working under eCS 1.2 *** AND *** I now have the Toshiba 2200BG Mini-PCI card, that I bought on eBAY, working in my T30 (with the 1802 bios patch to allow a non-IBM part) WORKING !

The breakthrough was that there was an application conflict with the VPC application driver (I had removed all of the networking drivers but missed VPCAPP) as soon as I removed this and rebooted, the system connected to my Linksys WRT54G router immediately.

I have however changed SO MANY things in getting to this point, that my notes would not help anyone, so I am now de-installing GENMAC and WLANMON (also cleaning all references in OS2.INI and will document a total re-install - noting the points to watch for as I go.

My conclusion is however that as long as the Mini-PCI Card returns the 8086:4220 ID, it "should" work with GenMac no matter if it's a Generic-Intel, IBM, Toshiba, Dell etc, card.

I'm about half way through the re-install. I'll let you know when I have documentation that creates a repeatable (successful) result.

By the way this is being done under eComStation v Beta2.2, however I would exepect the procedure to also work under eCS 1.2.

Thanks for the info - and the clarification - , Ed. FWIW, I'm using the VPCAPP driver with my 2915 card, and it does not seem to interfere with GenMAC's proper reading of the ID string. That said, I do not recall whether I tried the new BIOS with or without VPCAPP loaded, so I would have to check to see if it makes a difference, there.

Good luck with your reconfig. We'll be anxiously awaiting news.
