T30 series aren't "Speedstepped", are they?

fwiw: my T23 is, so why wouldn't any T not be....

Right. I should have written "Enhanced Speedstep Technology". And the difference isn't moot:

*4 Q:* What is the difference between *SpeedStep technology* and Enhanced *SpeedStep technology*?

*A:* Enhanced SpeedStep is a more aggressive and dynamic version
of SpeedStep and automatically switches between maximum
performance mode and battery-optimized mode, depending on the
needs of the application being run. The previous version of
SpeedStep only went into power conservation mode when the notebook
was unplugged from a power outlet.

So, now we know at least the WHY of the difference between working on batteries and working directly on the mains.

And it looks obvious now the driver we have for the intel 2200 b/g  can't cope well with the "enhanced speedstep technology".

And as I am already suffering over 8 months with this problem, I wonder why one of the learned guys hasn't put our attention earlier to this  key "feature". --
