Kris, when you write >I got (and had to ditch) a TP43 in early spring this year, and apparently USB wasn't USB 1.1 compatible either< then what do you mean by that?
Logitech mice didn't work for example.

I wouldn't worry to much about USB 1.1 compatibillity, as almost all my devices are 2.0.
About all my devices are 1.1 ...
But do you mean that the OS/2 USB drivers themselves don't work on the T43p?!!

Basically, usbuhcd.sys didn't work (that usb 1.1 as you sure are aware off).  I do recall an USB stick didn't work too (that stick had and has no problems on my actual TP41).
And were there any other reasons why you had to ditch that T43p?!

The wireless didn't work either. And above all, the fingerprint toy mangled the whole USB setup.
I just spend another few thousands to buy a T43p and I would at least hope not to spend another 4 weeks in vain trying to get it set up.

Well, be aware there is no TP43(p). There are dozens of different TP43(p), and the differences between these kinds are that big that it is de facto about different computers.
The one I'm speaking about is a TP43-2669-44G - to be avoided at all costs.

So depending on the inbuild hardware, your TP43 might work excellent. Alas, now it's your take to sort it out.
