Hi Gang

Thanks for the help

Ed gave the link:
http://support.dlink.com/default.asp?orig=2

This led to  FAQ
How do I use my D-Link wireless utility in Windows XP?

Solution:
Was to turn on "Wireless Zero Configuration" and then a reboot seemed to help

Who  the hell would think that "Wireless Zero Configuration" would be needed. It was found under "Computer Management", "Services and applications?

Stupid WindowsXP

Thanks again guys
Regards Al
