Stuart:
I have a verizon 5220 card and find it very useful. It gives me a connection anywhere I find a good cellphone signal. I tried using the drivers I received from Steven Levine and Mark Abramowitz without success. They loaded on boot but I could not get the card recognized as a PCMCIA modem and have not had time to attend to it. I am forced to the Windows XP side of this TP 24 P when I need to connect in out of the way places and will be interested when you get time to finish your VOICE article.
Regards,
John Clemente

What exactly is a "cellular data card"?
Hello Kris,
The card is a PC Card which incorporates a USB controller, a USB modem, and a cell radio. The computer interacts with it using conventional AT commands like it is a conventional modem, so you would use a dialer like InJoy to tell the modem to dial.
The card uses EVDO technology which, according to one source, is only available in the U.S.:

You can learn more by Googling for "Sierra 5220" and "EVDO"
