All I had to do was choose local rather than network and configure slpr as you suggested. then Bingo..wireless printing. Worked fine.  When one clicks "new printer" a pop up us ask network or local.  I had been choosing network which gets you yet to another series of screens with names logins passwords but  lead nowhere.

All I had to do was choose local rather than network and configure slpr as you suggested.  then Bingo..wireless printing.

Yep that's the key.
In printer driver, choose output port slpr.
Settings for this page:
lpd server: the tcpip number of the printerserver e.g. 192.168.0.21
lpd printer: the print server does have a name normally and here you give in the name.
the rest is default.
