The pricing of the wrt54GLs which can be loaded with 3rd party software has been coming
down. $62-75 is now average. FWIW: NewEgg.com has these at $67 w/$5 3 day shipping, but
offer a $10 rebate until 5/14/06.....limit 2 for rebate.

There has been talk of the units going out of stock or being discontinued.

DD-WRT has a version which BrainSlayer (the author) says will load on the v5 (VXWorks &
half ram'ed) WRT54G which you can get for $40-60. The firmware update is not as straight
forward as prior units based on what is said, and I have no idea what is involved.

DD-WRT has VOIP version so that your Vonage or other non-ISP VOIP can be prioritized on
your system, and supports SIPatHome initative (but that project seems to have faltered) in
addtion to an extensive QOS page where dozens of services from AIM & BitTorrent to FTP can
be prioritized and bandwidth limited.....

And DD-Wrt is near "official Buffalo WHR G54s and WHR HP G54 " as replacement units for
the Linksys which seems to be moving away from the OS movement. The buffalo units are said
to be better wireless units, too. $60-70 range.

While I have currently installed DD-WRT v23, I do not find that it is the easiest version
of firmware to use as many related items are scattered throughout the setup/admin-pages
and as an example, you may think you setup DHCP in one spot and not really have done so.
However, you can use DHCP for Wireless and not for Lan or visa versa, and the static IP
setup is better, so YMMV....
