I used to use my Siemens S46 via the ATT/Cingular network. If you hookup your phone by
serial cable or IR, the OS/2 system should see it. THere was a IR stack that would ID the
devices connected on OS/2 written by Oliver Stein that's on HOBBES. Anyway, all the
Cingular program does is send a *90 or some similar type code to the phone prior to the
dialup to put it in data mode if that is what it is using. Usually this is part of the
FAX/Data mode on the phone rather than the GPRS/Edge service. Your manual may have tips on
setting the phone to Fax/Data mode to connect.
Under the Cingular program are you using data kb or phone minutes when they bill you? I
caution you that data kb even at .01 per KB will add up pretty quickly, as a 5mb download
will cost nearly $50. Cingular currently prefers that you use the data portion of the
contract and thier own GPRS/EDGE network.
Tell them you are using Linux or BSD....you need them to tell you the prefix code to put
the phone in the right mode useing ILink or whatever to make it part of either the init or
phone number string.
