To enabled the IR you have to go to the BIOS and set it up. Windows can turn off the IR
using the Thinkpad configuration manager. You may have to use the Thinkpad configuration
to turn it on...
For OS/2's IR you will have to check if eCS 1.2 has it or go to IBM's driver matrix for
the unit and find the drivers for the thinkpad. Once those are installed, then you can use
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-viewer?sh=1&fname=/pub/os2/system/drivers/irdd22.exe for
the GSM phone. It is possible that the Hobbes drivers are correct and that they are not
thinkpad specific anymore and be all that you need....

What you have to ask the PHONE MFGR: call the tech support for the PHONE, is what code
(some string that starts with either * or #) will put the phone into MODEM mode -- tell
them you want to use it to send a fax or data on the road.....sometimes, you can set this
up manually using options. Also ask if there is any particular string to init the phone
when hooked as a COM device to a laptop.....and you can't use the cingular software since
it's Linux or bsd.......or search the web it may be "Treo Tethered mode dialling" and the
code may be #*83843733(#*TETHERED) as suggested on one web site,
