Essentially, yes. Note that you won't get the same kind of results as if you attached something to the antennae of the AP, but a general parabola (or two) sitting on the desk behind the lid (or one perhaps on a stand, overhanging the left side of the lid when opened, as one antenna terminates up there and the other on the right side of the lid).

Trial and error (and XWLAN) will give you an indication of how much signal you regain.
