I do not use any scripts. But I also have XWLAN installed as a standalone
program not as a widget (I do not know if this makes any difference but that is
the way I have installed it). I normally connect to a wired LAN but when I
travel and want to use wireless I boot the computer and then manually start
XWLAN. This connects to the network selected and then after some short delay
DHCP finally gets an IP and then everything is running.
