No guts, no glory.  I was reluctant to manually muck around with a 
working network configuration for my wired lan, but not hearing any 
other suggestions tried it anyway.

Using MPTS, I added a new card not existent on my machine, fully 
expecting MPTS to bomb, but it didn't.  Then added the protocols to the 
card and saved it.  Edited protocol.ini to replace with IBMPRISM stuff 
and config.sys as well.  It worked!!  I can now connect to my wireless 
router.

Now I have to figure out the problems with xWlan/Wlan 2.0 so that I can 
actually use the wireless connection.
