I have dual boot XP / OS2 thinkpad and Cisco 340A Trap 8 is a hardware interrupt issue. Windows is notorious for not properly shutting down the hardware upon reboot, Miles. This issue can be seen in everything from a sound card to video adapter. The real problem is with Windows, not OS/2. I used to experience this problem with my T20 when rebooting from W2K to OS/2. I had to power cycle the machine when going back to OS/2. I think a subsequent firmware update (or Windows fix) resolved the issue, as I haven't seen it on T2x series machines for some time.
1] If I use the 340 in XP and then soft-reboot to os/2 I get an exception in module trap (0008). If you power the machine off first, os/2 boots fine.
2] Windows seems to have a much easier time connecting to open networks and operating a lower signal stregnths than os/2. Even when XWlan is reporting a connection, I can't seem to rec/transmit data unless signal stregnth is above a certain level. Other networks however will configure in a flash and work fine with low signal.Robert addressed this rather well. That said, I think you'll find better low signal performance from newer versions (upcoming) of XWLAN and/or newer drivers and firmware. We're getting there (and you should see what some of the Linux guys have to go through)...
I would really like to learn more about tweaking my wireless connections. Is there some OS/2 wireless primer I could read somewhere?Come to Warpstock!! Seriously, the list archives here are probably the most enlightening tome you're likely to find (not meaning to puff up my chest). Also check for tips in the Voice newsletter (http://www.os2voice.org). It would be great to be able to actually publish a book on OS/2 Wi-Fi use, even if it were a small volume (hey, the thought of publishing any book on OS/2 these days would be great).
