If you have the ssid stored in the xwlan profile, it always will pick 
that same signal from the wirelees hub (first).

And my impression is you are asking to much: your pcmcia card (which one 
is it?) is only suited for  signals coming from strong enough radio 
stations.

Suggest you travel to a spot where there is a know wife service, and 
test it out there on spot.
