You don't need windy to get the ssid. Sure about the SSID?
   


I have not been able to get wlanstst.exe to show me any of the SSIDs for the
any wireless hubs in my neighborhood.  Also I can not get it to connect to any
of them and one is an unsecured network.


 

As I told earlier, in order to have a pcmcia card picked up a signal, that signal must be strong enough.

I shut down the laptop, turned off my wireless hub and rebooted the laptop.  It
did not connect to anything.  I then turned on my wireless hub and each profile
that XWLAN tried to connect to showed the SSID from my wireless hub

     
Of course. Your "wireless hub" only can have 1 ssid at a time.
   


Yes but what I am trying to do is connect a laptop to another wireless network.
XWLAN does not show me any of the SSIDs or connect to any other wireless
network.

 

If you have the ssid stored in the xwlan profile, it always will pick that same signal from the wirelees hub (first).

And my impression is you are asking to much: your pcmcia card (which one is it?) is only suited for  signals coming from strong enough radio stations.

Suggest you travel to a spot where there is a know wife service, and test it out there on spot.
