wifistat.exe is a part of the ibmprism.exe package available at 
http://www.ecomstation.nl


You can do the same with xlanstat, but I haven't sorted that out (yet?).

Actually, what you have to do is:

1. look which ssid are circulating around.
2. Make a profile for the ssid you want.
3. Activate the profile.

Applies to wifistat as well as xwlan.


btw: don't have to high an expactation about wifi here in Europe, you 
won't be overwhelmed by ssid.
