I bought a 2200b/g that was specific for IBM TPs.  It has an IBM part number.   Worked fine on my T42p.  Sorry no idea on the T41.
I'm getting the error message: "error 1808 illegal device".  Go figure.

I installed a "generic" Intel 2200b/g in my Thinkpad A31. because IBM clearly stated that they did not support that card, even the one they sold, on such an "obsolete" system. (Since when is a 2.4GHz P4m with 1.25 GB DDR RAM and a 400MHz FSB obsolete? Turkeys!) The IBM software that came with the A31 for Windows 2K would not recognize it and actually prevented the Intel software from working. After I removed the IBM wireless networking support software and reinstalled the Intel software, the 2200b/g worked fine.

This tells me that the "lockout" was built into the supporting software, rather than the bios.

Regarding Lenovo, they have actually fixed long standing bugs in some of the IBM add on Windows software. In that respect, things have improved. However, I suspect that they will not provide ANY OS/2 support, or even sympathy, since they will most likely feel no trace of lingering responsibility.

I am waiting for the fallout with GenMac to stop before I reinstall OS/2 on the A31 because I need the wireless networking to function or it will be unusable.

Unrelated P.S.
Last week the person who developed the memory management for Windows NT stopped by my lab. During conversation, she confirmed that NT is NOT a spin off of the OS/2 project, despite some rumors to the contrary. She worked directly with the team of ex DEC employees who wrote it, from the ground up, as a "clean room" knock off of the DEC operating system, which they had just completed prior to departing DEC. She also indicated the NT team was not happy when Gates and Balmer came in and ordered them to make Windows run on top of it. That was not in the original definition.

I guess hearing screaming from adjacent offices was not unusual when those two came to visit. So much for the "Happy Culture" inside Microsoft.

On the other hand, I'm sure they didn't scream about the stock options.
