Sam,
Well now it sounds like your talking about a Laptop. If so and you have an integrated Wifi adapter GenMac 1.0 was recently released and is working great with my integrated Broadcom B/G in my Dell Latitude D600. If you don't have an integrated card then the IBM High Rate 128 PCMCIA card works great and the IBM driver is available on ecomstation.com. You can also use an Orinco Gold card with this driver.
Thanks for your help; yes I am talking about a laptop. I have it mounted in my van on a docking station, which is how I happen to have a PCI slot available.
It's kind of old -- Toshiba Tecra 8000 -- so it doesn't have a built-in NIC at all.
I actually have my desktop connected to one of the wired ports on a wireless router I bought to go with my cable modem.
What I want to do is:
1) communicate between the two without having to drag the laptop inside;
2) access the internet from the laptop likewise;
3) access the internet via cellular when on the road; and
4) access wifi hotspots when I travel by air or when I'm staying in hotels or with family/friends.
Thanks.
I have had real good experience with the IBM High Rate 128. They can be found on ebay from time to time. The Wifistate program only locks onto the strongest Access Point so if you want to access a different one you would need to know the SSID and configure it as one of the profiles. Otherwise it installs just like any other Network card in MPTS. Does OS/2 recognize your PCMCIA chipset? I had to install Cardbus 8 which is available on ecomstation.com.
Others may have differing opinions but that is the route I have used successfully.
Sam
