Now that you have found the icon and can use the app, I recommend you take this as a lesson. If you spent less time complaining about things you don't like and more time questioning what you were doing different, compared to others, this thread would have be mercifully shorter. You would have quickly realized your numerous incorrect assumptions were getting in the way of using the app and your real problem would have been resolved days ago. You were so busy complaining that you forgot to ask what should appear on the screen when the app was started. While it may be true that someone else probably should have thought to ask this earlier, there was so much noise in the thread, that it's easy to understand how this might distract from solving the real problem which was your inability to see an icon on your desktop.
