Well said, Stan.  Let me put into a little more perspective.

I have a full machine shop in my garage.  I have certified gauge blocks and
measurement tools and wrenches in every size from 1/16 inch to 3.5 inches, 1mm
to 50mm - but I still have occasion to resort to an adjustable wrench.  Along
with all the precision machinery I still have a large selection of hammers,
including a couple of BMFH sledge hammers for stubborn fits.  Operating systems
are tools - you use the one that fits the task at hand.  Some fit more tasks
and the way I work better than others but they all have their strengths and
uses.  The point is that, like any other tool, you have to learn their uses and
peculiarities.  My CNC milling machine and a file will perform the same tasks
but the former requires a whole lot of learning to use it to get it's superior
results.  The required knowlege includes a lot of background information
regarding materials and techniques not directly related to the functions
performed by the mill.

As I said, operating systems are tools.  The are not religions that exclude all
others.

Pardon my soapbox, but I've been involved with computing and programming since
the IBM 1401 was state-of-the-art and parochial thinking has undoubtedly been
one of the major deterants to progress for the entire 40+ years.
