Specifically, there is talk about installation of "PCMCIA Support" from the eCS website. I thought that the necessary system support for PCMCIA was installed by default in T21 Thinkpads, and as far as I have read on this list, at least in connection with Cisco 350 series cards, additional system support is not required. I would like to have confirmed (or otherwise) that the only software that I need to operate my Cisco card is the Beta driver others have given me and the XWLAN control program. I notice that there are some nine files with names PCMCIA.* on my T21, and only four on my desktop system (both run eCS v1.1); that would seem to indicate that the eCS installation on the Thinkpad recognizing the presence of a PCMCIA slot, installed the needed support, and I needn't do more. Is that correct? Several people here have installed cards like mine in machines like mine, and seem to be operating them successfully. Is it really true that there exists no summary of the steps involved in installing the card and getting it to work? My repeatedly expressed concern about this may seem a trifle paranoid. My problem is that I do not have the card in my hands now, so cannot experiment with it; it is abroad, waiting for me to pick it up. When I do that, I will need for it to *work*, and it will be too late to ask questions and do experiments, let alone carry on discussions with people who have already done what I need to do. Installation and configuration should be by then pretty much reduced to "Plug 'n' Play". If there is someone in the area of Washington DC who has gone through this, and who would permit me to consult with him then by telephone in case of need, that would increase my confidence. At this point, I have the Beta driver installed, apparently properly, and the XWLAN widget sits in XWP (and seems to recognize the presence of the driver).
