Asunto: [OS2Wireless] XWLAN Bugfix Release V1.11 for DHCP problems

Hi, Neil!

On 12/12/2004 12:24 am, Neil Waldhauer thus wrote :

I have finally found time and a machine to try XWLAN v1.11, and this is how it
worked.

wired = LAN0, dhcp, configured in setup.cmd
wireless = LAN1, dhcp, not configured in setup.cmd

I have two wireless cards, an Ambicom, and a Cisco 350.

For my Ambicom card, I can be in a wired mode, and slip in the PC Card, and it
switches to wireless. I have to configure XWLAN to use lan1, and I seemed to
have to make a profile with my SSID. I'm not completely certain about that. See
below.

Is your AP beaconing, or do you have SSID broadcast turned off? Without the beacon, you'll need to specify an SSID in the profile.

When  I eject the card, I still need to issue a DHCPSTRT -i LAN0 command.
Everything else is handled by XWLAN.

Interesting. What do the following say, before you issue the DHCPSTRT:

IFCONFIG LAN0
IFCONFIG LAN1

I made my new Cisco 350 card LAN2, and I select that in XWLAN, and my SSID, and
nothing happens. It does not recognise the card.

Hmmm... I started drafting this message at 3:30 this afternoon. I held off finishing it until I had a chance to experiment. I do see your problem, or something similar, I should say. There definitely is something odd happening with a second card.

In my setup, my wired interface is LAN0, Cisco is LAN1, and IBM High Rate LAN2. I can switch cards back and forth, select the appropriate device and adapter number in XWLAN, and leaving the pr0ofile alone, reassociate with the AP and get an IP for the alternate card. However, if I switch to hotspot mode, I can't find anything with LAN2, and telling XWLAN to scan for connections with LAN2 resulted in the CPU hanging at 60+%, until I pulled the card (at which point the CPU meter dropped back down to 2%).

What do you have in LANTRAN.LOG for your setup? Try cranking up the debug level in PROTOCOL.INI for the Wi-Fi drivers, so we can see what's going on.

My script is similarly
useless. I have no idea why this doesn't work. I have two wireless cards, and I
should be able to support both of them, one as LAN1 and one as LAN2. In MPTS, I
should just be able to add both adapters, each with only TCP/IP, and it ought
to work.

I made the Cisco 350 LAN1, and now XWLAN works just fine for that, too. I still
have to issue DHCPSTRT -i LAN0 when I eject the card.

Neil, do you possibly have the option set to reuse the last leased address if a DHCP server cannot be found? I've had some trouble with this on a couple machines, namely, my wife's. I've had to manually go in and request a new lease, even though it appeared that I had a valid IP address. Check %ETC%\DHCPCD.CFG for the "previousCFG" parameter, and comment in out.
