If someone with some expertise in this area is on the list, the time has come for a new DHCP client for OS/2,
In the scheme of things, this is doable. Most of the logic to do this
already exists in apps like eCSCoNet and Injoy, so I would be talking to
them first.
The open source client (Novel Client for Linux - yes, with one "l") is mainly IPX-related. Supposedly, Novell has said that they will be releasing a fully integrated desktop client for Linux in the next couple of months, including support for native Novell drive mappings (not via NFS or SAMBA) and NCP (Novell Core Protocol) over IP. I don't know if this will be open source, but I seem to recall reading something about it being based on an open source project (Novel Client?). Porting, of course, is another story. In addition to this, we need an updated NetWare client, which supports pure IP, multiple tree logins, and (well, part of the IP support) SLP in addition to IPX's SAP. It would be great if there was no primary vs secondary interface difference, too (i.e., if the primary interface is down, the secondary interface can't connect to a server, as it doesn't listen to SAPs...who's bright idea was that one, anyway?). Again, for clarity, let me state UNEQUIVOCABLY: I WOULD PAY GOOD MONEY FOR THIS.
This gets into the area of blue sky wishlist. It's a lot of work, even if
something like an open source linux client exists.
