On 03/31/05 11:00 pm Hakan tossed the following ingredients into the ever-growing pot of cybersoup:

I have the same router with my cable Internet connection, but I have it configured as DHCP server in conjunction with fixed IP addresses on each machine -- 192.168.1.1xx. This works fine for me, and I don't see why the same wouldn't work with a DSL modem. But I have no VoIP "in circuit" to confuse matters.

I've never used the CD that came with the router. I've done all the configuration -- and even firmware updates -- using Mozilla to access the router at 192.168.1.1.

And how is it configured?  That's what I need to now so I can see if it
would work for me as well, DHCP server excepted.

Many of my settings depend on having the router set as a DHCP server. Moreover, not all versions of the firmware have the same features. My firmware is 2.02.2, the latest (AFAICT) for my particular hardware revision (1.1).

On the "Setup" -> "Basic Setup" screen, I have Internet Connection Type set to "Automatic Configuration - DHCP." I.e., it's getting its WAN-side IP address allocated by the cable modem.

The Local IP Address (i.e., the address of the router) is the default 192.168.1.1, Netmask 255.255.255.0

I didn't fill in any DNS addresses because it's getting those via the cable modem. I see two DNS addresses on the Status - Router page.

On Setup -> Advanced Routing I have Operating Modes set to Gateway.

I think that most of the rest will be set as you require, but feel free to ask about any particular item.
