The best people to answer the potential development question are Jens Glathe and/or Oliver Mark, both of whom are subscribed to this list. I don't know whether the Centrino technology performs better than Winmodems do (I surely hope so). If not, you may be better off sticking with your Jacaranda card in any event.

there it's no difference. Sometimes I plan to use a
wifi-receiver with a ethernet card as wifi unit for OS/2, if
only one exists selfpowered...
