Interestingly enough, Sam, most AP's run embedded Linux. you can do quite a few things with a PC functioning as an AP, particularly in the realm of proxy and authentication. True, you could set up a standalone AP, a couple NICs in a box, and an external bridge, but if you could shrink it all down into one nifty little box which could theoretically sit on a shelf, you've actually created a network appliance. Believe it or not, there are indeed uses for these things. What I am looking for is an intelligent super server to work as a gateway to the Internet and provide Internet access to a local wireless based Well you could do that easily enough with two regular network cards in your gateway computer running Injoy Firewall and then connect the inexpensive Access Point to one NIC and your Cable modem or whatever to the other NIC, the only thing you would need OS/2 driver's for is the networks cards. Or use a router with a built in firewall, nat and wireless access point. Is it very common to have Access Point software in other OS's?
