Ad-hoc rarely works, particularly in non Mac or Windows environments. Do you have an access point? From what manufacturer is the other card? Model? Wi-Fi State is reporting the available bandwidth in the radio wave, but not the IP, IPX, or NETBIOS traffic (there probably isn't any). Do you have an IP address at all? Static?
