Basically, consider a wireless network which is not isolated; e.g., a network coexisting with other networks. A client associates with a given AP, receives a DHCP address (for the purposes of this argument), and begins its session. Another client associates with a different AP, and begins its conversation. AP1 pretty much ignores traffic on the other conversation as it is not destined to it (i.e., Client2 did not associate with it). This is true even if both clients are similarly addressed (e.g., both AP's use out-of-the-box addressing schemes, such as 192.168.1.x). APs which work efficiently will completely drop packets passing by which are from unassociated clients. Other AP's will listen to all traffic, and simply pass it through. I have no idea which ones do one or the other; at this point, this appears to be a trial and error sort of thing. Perhaps we should start reporting such issues to Jonas for the CHL.
