Anyhow, I got to thinking Ed.  Did you download the 1.4.2_09 or do you have 1.4.2_05?  I haven't tried the latter with 1.5.
Also did you get the JRE or SDK version of 1.4.2 and did you get the matching 1.5?  e.g. sdk 1.4.2 ad 1.5 or jre 1.4.2 and 1.5 or mixed?
Andy

I believe I have 1.4.2_09 JRE but 1.5 could have been SDK - let me check.

Cheers/2

Ed.

[G:\]java -version
java version "1.4.2_09"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_09-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_09-b05, mixed mode)

jre1.5.0_07 for 1.5 - so it looks like both are runtime environments, not the SDK.

are you using JRE or SDK ?

Cheers/2

Ed.

I actually have tested both successfully with SIP.  I have the SDK for 1.4.2 and it seemed I had to pay special attention to the differences in location of files when I setup the 1.5 JRE but I got it going.  As the SDK has more to it, I am not sure how successful it would be to feed the 1.5 SDK from the 1.4 JRE though (come to think of it, it would probably work for this... I actually have built with the 1.5 SDK which wouldn't work feeding from the jre).  That error you got may just have been a bad version... I don't see 1731 as available, though whether it was pulled or if it cycled off I don't know.  Currently I have 1752 running along.
Andy

/ downloaded v 1735 and it exhibited exactly the same issues as 1731, so I don't think it's a SIP_Commander version thing, rather my set-up./

So your "base" is 1.4.2 SDK, not JRE ? and then you have transferred all exe files from its BIN directory to the 1.5jre one ? - can you do a quick dir of the exe files in the 1.4.2 SDK bin directory and I'll compare with what I have - perhaps there's another file in the 1.5jre directory that needs to be replaced ?

This is what I have

1.4.2 JRE exe files in BIN directory:

The volume label in drive G is ECS20RC3.
The Volume Serial Number is 72B7:C5C1.
Directory of G:\programs\java142\bin

j2cpl.exe          java.exe           javaw.exe          keytool.exe
kinit.exe          klist.exe          ktab.exe           orbd.exe
policytool.exe     rmid.exe           rmiregistry.exe    servertool.exe
tnameserv.exe
      13 file(s)     983,506 bytes used
                   2,048,323 K bytes free

and in my 1.5 directory (some, if not all, have been already overwritten with the ones from 1.4.2):
j2cpl.exe          java.exe           javacpl.exe        javaw.exe
javaws.exe         jucheck.exe        jusched.exe        keytool.exe
kinit.exe          klist.exe          ktab.exe           orbd.exe
pack200.exe        policytool.exe     rmid.exe           rmiregistry.exe
servertool.exe     tnameserv.exe      unpack200.exe
      19 file(s)   1,610,886 bytes used
                    49,065,984 bytes free

Cheers/2

Ed.
Here are the executables in my jre15\bin directory (not all of them have counterparts in Java142):
java.exe            javacpl.exe         javaw.exe           javaws.exe
jucheck.exe         jusched.exe         keytool.exe         kinit.exe
klist.exe           ktab.exe            orbd.exe            pack200.exe
policytool.exe      rmid.exe            rmiregistry.exe     servertool.exe
tnameserv.exe       unpack200.exe

well, one difference is that I have a j2cpl.exe in my Java 1.5 BIN directory, that you don't so I moved that out and tried again but got the same error.

I wonder - did you replace ALL the exe files in the Java 1.5 BIN directory with those from 1.4.2 - or just some ?

Do your  file sizes / dates in the Java 1.5 BIN directory match these please ?

It looks like I took 2 approaches... for the SDK I just copied all the exe files over but for the JRE I was selective.

One thing you can do for a test... rename your Java 1.4.2 directory and rename the 1.5 directory to match what it was.  Then run your script to setup the 1.4.2, this way you know all the registry settings are right.  If this works then we may need to make changes to the registry.
