If you do get a driver (presumably unreleased) for that adapter, let us know.
I'm not asking you to share the driver unless it is released. I heard a rumor
that someone was developing the driver.

While I simply don't need the bandwidth of 802.11g, the hardware seems to be
widely available.

In the meantime, I see that 802.11b is the only choice for actual real-world
use. I've now seen dozens of public access points, and they are unianimous on
802.11b. With cheap access to 1.5 Mb lines, a faster standard than 802.11b
isn't that useful for public access points in my neighborhood.
