I guess they don't have different firmware for overseas use. I believe Canada is also limited to 11 channels. I never really was a ham radio guy, but this Wi-Fi stuff is turning me into one...by necessity! Radio waves? I'm the LAN guy!

<OT story>
I had a call a few months ago to configure some Cisco equipment ("routers", as I was told). When I asked the prospective client about the particulars, I was advised that these pieces needed to be configured for a client in South Africa. They needed to be configured here in New York, then shipped out, with one of the three units staying in the rack up here. Okay... I've never been one to be all that comfortable with those situations, as invariably, I'm the poor idiot who's got to get on a plane when the remote boxes don't work upon arrival. But, I digress...

I then asked the prospective client what model number(s) the Ciscos were, as I wanted to be sure to do my homework before even opening my mouth to guesstimate how much time & expense it would be. When he gave me the numbers, I was completely baffled. "I've never heard of these before. What, exactly, are these units?" I inquired.

"Voice over IP routers," he said.

To that, I replied, "Thanks, but no thanks. You've got the wrong guy." The response was that VoIP was the wave of the future and that I should learn it. Huh? I'm the LAN guy! I don't do telephones!

If this Wi-Fi stuff continues on its current path, I may live to eat those words!! :-)

What is most interesting is that the updated Intersil mPCI driver actually will let you enable channels 12 & 13. My WAP is limited to the first 11 so
it  would not work to enable the driver but it made me curious anyway. It's late so I'm hitting the sack. Charles [23:46 CT, 11-Aug-03]  =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
