Subject: OS/2 Wireless Users List: Wireless how to questions

Well, I finally got eCS 1.1 installed on a TP23. Now I
don't understand how to setup the wireless card.

I have the correct drivers. I have the WiFi Stat app for
profiles.

PC Director says that the card is 'OK' and the WiFI Stat
App can turn the radio on and off. The led stops flashing

Here's what I need to do:

The WEP128 needs to be enabled and the Key entered.
The MAC ID needs to transmitted to the AP as the AP is Mac
protected, this works with WinXP on the same machine.
The Channel needs to be set to 10.
The SSID needs to be set.

I can see in the WiFi that you can create the profiles and
I created a profile that has all of the above except the
channel which is not a value that you can enter. The card
doesn't connect. However, when the network type is changed
to ADHOC, it appears to pickup a network with a hidden SSID
(my AP doesn't hide the ID) and runs at 2 MB. But this
can't be my network because the AP is sitting right next to
the card, it should be getting a better signal.

Also, what happens when there is more than 1 network? How
does the user choose?

And, how should the card be configured? My network gives IP
and gateway information. TP23 has a network card which is
correctly configured, and the WiFi card. I want to switch
between the two. I want BOTH to get DHCP parameters, if
possible, as the DHCP server gives a different IP to both.

Also, my wireless network doesn't support Netbios, only
TCPIP.
How should the card be configured in MPTS? You can't have
two networks configured and enabled as DHCP.

I noted that the NIF for the card allows you to configure a
number of the above but it's not clear to me what is the
keyword being configured -- I would like as an example that
the card find any availble network always, and then if I
choose a profile then use that one, goes back to what
network question.

Heres' some NIF examples that are confusing to me. This is
the encryption section, so as examples, the network SSID is
Warpstock, the key is Warpstock2003, is this NIF correct?
