By now, I would have figured that there would be a number of directories like this, some of which would run from CD or hard drive in a browser. There are a few which are multiplatform (see http://www.jiwire.com/hotspot-locator-laptop.htm and http://www.riverwalkmobile.com/directory.htm as examples). The neat thing about the cellular solution is that as you physically approach a hotspot, you're alerted. It's like wardriving with your phone.

I notice that one of the other "requirements" for wi-fihotspotlist.com's implementation is IE 5 or above. If this is so, then Odin probably wouldn't cut it, though as you point out, Stan, SVista or VPC should do the trick.

It would be nice if WiFi411.com would "can" their directory for offline use, in some database format (Approach would be nice, but MySQL - the database engine they're using - could be implemented, as well, with a php frontend). [OT] BTW, it's possible to build standalone php apps with GTK. If only our GTK implementation on OS/2 was more robust (I think the closest thing we have is EverBlue). [/OT]

Here's a new twist on what's becoming an "age-old" problem: finding the nearest hotspot. Check out this solution using cell phones: http://wifinetnews.com/archives/004142.html.

how about:http://www.wi-fihotspotlist.com/application.html  It's win95+ but it should work with sVista or other emulators. Might even work under odin.
