"Lewis G Rosenthal" <lgrosenthal@2rosenthals.com>,
Hampton Inn customer service replied to my enquiry to them that they had an old system
(now being upgraded) which allowed only the MAC addresses of the NICs they loaned out
to arriving guests. (I arrived too late to get one; says something about the kinds of
people travelling in remote areas of NY State!) Thanks to all who replied (one of whom
guessed rightly).
My adventure continues and I need more help.
I tried to log on at the Signet lounge at Narita (Tokyo) Terminal 2, where BB service
comes from Yahoo Japan. Visitors are in principle provided complimentary service
by means of a small lottery-style card on which one scratches off an overlay to
reveal the secret codes.
I failed to make this work (the instructions are all in Japanese . . . ) and so beg some
more guidance from the esteemed members of this group. Following are the notes I
made. What should I have done to be able to make an internet connection? I had
a strong signal and was associated with their AP; I just could not access anything; PING
and TRACEROUTE always timed out, and I could not access my ATT mail server.
