 something like the D-Link DP-311P Wireless Print Server provides 802.11b wireless 
connectivity so that documents can be printed from multiple PCs and laptops from anywhere

and for the desktop:

Say a netgear WG602 802.11g or SMC SMC2870W Wireless Access Point, in addition to the 
cablemodem wifi router.
