I'm sure it can be done, and the os2.be site probably lists some cards
that are known to work, but is there really any good reason to do this?

Only if the desktop moves around frequently, or the WAP (or router) needs
to be located in a different location from the desktop can I see a reason
to do this.  Almost all wifi routers include some wired ports also.
