Perhaps over the short term this is something of concern, but the industry sees WPA as yet another kludge until the newly ratified 802.11i spec works its way into the firmware. This is where we need to keep our attention focused. (See http://wifinetnews.com/archives/003931.html for some insight.)

That said, the Open1x project (www.open1x.org) has developed and released an open source supplicant (Xsupplicant, for *nix) for 802.1x authentication (802.1x is now a subset of 802.11i), and we can only hope that our friends in the *nix community will hack together something with usable sources so that we can effectively port it to OS/2. Meanwhile, legacy networks will continue for some time using 128-bit WEP and TKIP (WPA) methods, from what I can see.

Should we be worried about this?

NetLabs is hosting the WLAN project. <http://wlan.netlabs.org/index.phtml>
That's a good start. But we don't have an open-source wireless driver. I'm
quite grateful to those who put some OS/2 wireless drivers out, but I'm
skeptical about future support, unless new programmers can get help from the
existing networking driver gurus.

So, as a one word answer, yes, I think we should be worried.
