The reviews on the Kensington gizmo were abysmal. There's a new unit out wh=
ich does much better, though the name escapes me now (check  over at liwire=
free.org; I think I may have blogged it).

However, as Neil has pointed out, using WiFiState configured for dynamic mo=
de, you usually pick up available SSIDs.

Last October, following Warpstock, I went to the nearby ISP convention. Fro=
m the exhibit hall there were literally dozens of SSIDs floating around, an=
d my machine kept hopping from one to another. I finally settled on one wit=
h a good signal, set the SSID in WiFiState, and stuck with it.
