A seems to be going the way of all things, especially now that tri-mode access points are becoming reasonably priced. This, of course (the availability of tri-mode APs) makes transitioning an investment in 802.11a client hardware easier to handle, and the phasing in of 802.11g pretty straightforward. As Neil has pointed out, hotspots are still running 802.11b gear, and even Sputnik's managed APs are 802.11b based.

It sure would be nice, especially now that I have my Handspring Treo 600 SmartPhone, though there's a wait on the Palm OS side (the Treo 600 runs Palm OS 5) for compatible hardware (the Palm BT card doesn't support OS 5). Syncing via IR works (sort of), but the whole line-of-sight thing gets to be a pain. BT would eradicate this. All that said, before I could even use BT, I would need a compatible sync application, so all of this sort of puts the cart before the horse...!
