When I am on a wired connection running battery (or just where there is no connection) I can turn it off and save battery. The switch is not Julian's problem as he says it works if he has it on in eCS and boots to windows. It is more likely a driver issue in windows. I would update the wireless drivers and the power-management drivers. Running System-Update may make that easier. If updating the driver then Access Connection (AC) may need to be updated as well (make sure you uninstall AC before installing a new version).
